As Part of our Science Unit on Astronomy, we studied the Moon and moon phases.
We learned the Western perspective and general facts about the Moon. We discussed reflective sunlight, different surfaces, temperatures and atmospheres. We studied why the moon changes shapes and made a Moon phases chart with the vocabulary terms and definitions of each phase.
We also discussed what the Srimad Bhagavatam says about the residents of Candra loka – the Moon Planet and talked about the Vedic perspective and Srila Prabhupada’s instructions on space exploration.
When I was looking for Oreo Cookies for this Moon Phase Project, I came upon “WhoNu” cookies – a healthy version! It has no trans-fats, no hydrogenated fats, and no high fructose corn syrup. The box touted a whole list of other vitamins in it! Look for it next time you head to the store. No point in filling our kids with junk when they’re learning about the universe.
Here are pictures of the Project.
